Beautiful, intelligent, good-natured and lively, Negra will bring joy to the right owner.

Negra is three years old and will be four in November 2023. Her mother is a Balkan hound, reddish-black in colour, while her father is an English setter, black and white. Negra is a beautiful very deep chocolate brown colour, almost black, with a smooth glossy coat.

She spent a little time with Eco Hvar a couple of years ago, during which she responded extremely well to obedience training from Sara Radonić, our qualified dog-groomer. In no time at all she had mastered basic commands and also learned several clever 'tricks'. She evidently enjoyed the attention and the challenges!

Later on, she proved to be less amenable to learning her role as a hunting dog, so she is now looking for the right owner who can provide her with plenty of exercise, affection and, of course, the right form of obedience training suited to her new life.

Negra is now in the Animal Centrum Shelter in Kaštel Sućurac, where she is receiving all the necessary medical and social care she needs prior to re-homing.     The environment minister, Irene Vélez, said the decision was reached because other methods to control their population had been expensive and unsuccessful, including neutering some of the animals or moving them to zoos. Vélez said that up to 80 hippos would be affected by the measure. She did not say when the hunting would begin.
