U društvu moramo živjeti mirno zajedno, i moramo poštivati zakone: ubijanje i zlostavljanje životinja po Članku 205. Kaznenog zakona (NN 125/2011.) su kaznena djela.

Nije prihvatljivo da vlasnici mačaka pate zbog mučenja i gubitaka svojih ljubimaca; da gosti, pogotovo djeca, vide grozne prizore mačaka u mukama; da interesi iznajmljivača budu ugroženi zbog ilegalnog djelovanja nekih ljudi; da policija, lokalne zajednice i pojedinci moraju izgubiti vrijeme, resurse (i živce) da bi spriječili akcije ubijanja, skupili dokaze i dignuli tužbe protiv osumnjičenih.

Zašto ljudi njih ubiju? Neki ljudi mrze životinje, često bez posebnog razloga. Nekima smetaju neke navike kod divljih zapuštenih mačaka, naime nekontrolirano parenje; galama kad mužjaci se tuku zbog ženki; i smrad od izmeta.

Projekt za spašavanje mačaka

Glavne točke:

6. Lokalne vlasti će staviti reklame u javnim prostorima i na internetu, naime na portalima i Facebook stranici.

  • Changing tide levels, shifting sands and hardened shorelines put waves at risk, affecting more than just surfers

The climate crisis is coming for some of the world’s greatest surf breaks, submerging some as sea level rises and wiping out others as classic breaks get crushed against coastal developments.

Analysis of dozens of famous waves in world surfing reserves (WSR) found more than three-quarters were at high risk because of changing tide levels, hardened shorelines and shifting sands.

  • Plans for a 200-room project on an unspoiled beach have pitted developers against the conservationists fighting for smaller-scale schemes to protect the island’s habitat

Visitors to Rocky Point in south-west Tobago are drawn to its sandy beach, fringed by coral reefs and dark rock formations and carpeted with the fruit-bearing trees found on Caribbean coastlines – almonds, sea grapes, coconuts, and the poisonous manchineel. The beach is part of Back Bay, a 500-metre swathe of land, and trekking through its undulating terrain, thickly covered in bush and shrubs, feels akin to walking through a rainforest.

But this still relatively unspoiled location is at the centre of a struggle between two opposing interests – those who see large-scale development as the most profitable path and those who believe smaller, incremental developments owned by the community would be best.

  • Some of deaths came from falling trees as nearly a million people are without power and rain and flooding remain a concern

At least four people were reported dead on Saturday amid Isaias after it made landfall late on Friday on Florida’s panhandle as a category 2 hurricane, according to authorities.

The storm also took down trees, knocked out electricity for hundreds of thousands and flooded highways – but as Saturday evening approached, the region was reopening.

  • Exclusive: Firms made more than £340m last year from processing industrial and commercial wastewater at sewage works that are unable to remove many chemical pollutants

Water companies in the UK made more than £340m in revenue last year by pouring billions of litres of industrial and commercial wastewater into sewage treatment works that experts say are not designed to remove most chemicals, leaving pollutants to pass into rivers, seas and farmland.

Water companies in England are required by law to take industrial wastewater and issue permits called “trade-effluent consents” that allow businesses to send it to sewage works, though water companies can refuse applications.

  • Lockerbrook, Derbyshire: Last week they were here, now they are not. Yet the details of their epic migration are still a mystery to us

The sudden absence of something, even though you know it’s coming, can dent the heart a little. The Japanese, inevitably, have a phrase for it: mono no aware, the pathos of things – and by things, in this case, I mean house martins.

Last week I had stood in the same spot, looking across the same valley. The weather then was much the same as it was today, low‑angled sunlight through patchy cloud lighting up the yellowing birch leaves and bronzing moors on the north-eastern slopes of Kinder Scout. It had picked out the spread wings of a buzzard a little below my eyeline, along with a haze of large insects, which in fact, I quickly realised, were house martins.

  • Exclusive: Former Brazilian environment minister warns of destruction as far-right scion favourite to become president

The former Brazilian environment minister Marina Silva has said that if Flávio Bolsonaro becomes president he will seek to finish the “perverse project” of rampant rainforest destruction initiated by his jailed far-right father.

The Amazon was thrown into chaos during Jair Bolsonaro’s 2019-2022 presidency, when Brazil’s environment and Indigenous protection agencies were gutted and environmental criminals ran riot, causing surges in deforestation and violence.

  • For a growing band of older Australians, retirement has become an unlikely second act, spent rewilding mountains, counting sea slugs and coaxing damaged country back to life

When Susan Downes stepped into the hallway of an old farmhouse for sale in York, Western Australia, she felt an oddly certain sense of knowing. “Oh, this is my house,” the retired GP remembers thinking. There was just one problem: it came with 200 hectares.

Widowed and with her children grown, Downes, then in her 60s, was finally able to act on a long-held wish to move to the countryside. She had imagined something modest: an old house with “a little bit of garden and stuff”. Two hundred hectares was rather more than she had in mind, no matter how charming she found the high ceilings. “I thought, the house is lovely, but I can’t possibly do that.”

  • Draft national strategy accepts the wily invasive species can’t be eradicated but outlines steps to protect native animals most at risk

They dart across playgrounds on dainty paws, sneak into back yard coops to eat suburban chickens and kill more than a million native animals every day.

The European red fox – a wily invasive species – is “one of the most impactful threats” for native mammals, says Sarah Legge, a professor at Charles Darwin University and author of a new draft plan to curb their predation.

  • Koos Bekker’s Newt estate encompasses luxury hotels, pubs and high street business, with local concerns including flooding

When South African billionaire Koos Bekker bought an old country estate in a sleepy corner of Somerset to turn it into a luxury hotel, residents thought it was a sign their area was on the up.

Walking through his peaceful manicured gardens, which feature a maze of apple trees twisted into perfect shapes using the espalier method, it’s easy to feel that all is well in this quiet, picturesque pocket of England.
