Non-Catholics may attend Catholics services and ceremonies, but are not allowed to take Communion. On Hvar, many non-Catholics join in the all-night Maundy Thursday Processions, in which groups led by a Cross-bearer start out from six villages and walk round the circuit of these villages, returning to their starting point early on Good Friday morning.
Every parish has a special annual celebration for its patron saint, and in Svirče there are two local feast days. Besides the churches which are normally active, there are many others which are used on occasion. There are very few churches or chapels on the island which are not used at all.
